What to Expect from Your Reiki Session

A little preparation can help you feel comfortable and at ease during your in-person Reiki session. Here's what to expect before, during and afterwards.

Before Your Session

For your first appointment, I'll send you a new client registration form. Please complete as much as possible and return it at least 24 hours before your session. You'll have the opportunity to review and sign it in person when you arrive.

Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, apart from removing your shoes.

You may also wish to arrive with one or a few healing intentions. These might relate to something physical, emotional or personal in your life.

Your intentions can remain entirely private. There's no need to share them with me unless you'd like to.

During Your Session

We'll begin with a brief conversation before you settle comfortably on the treatment table or in a chair.

I usually offer Reiki through gentle hand placements. Before we begin, I'll show you where I may place my hands and check that you're comfortable with each position.

If you prefer, I can work with my hands held just above the body instead. You're welcome to choose different approaches for different areas, or change your preference at any time.

During the session, you can simply rest and receive. There's nothing particular you need to do.

People experience Reiki differently. Some feel deeply relaxed or even fall asleep. Others notice sensations such as warmth or tingling, while some experience a quieter sense of rest.

There is no particular experience you need to have.

After Your Session

You may feel relaxed, refreshed or perhaps a little sleepy afterwards. Everyone's experience is different.

If possible, allow yourself some quiet time after your session, particularly if you feel like resting.

Drink water as you normally would, and give yourself space to settle back into your day at your own pace.

There's no special aftercare routine you need to follow. Simply pay attention to how you feel and what you need.
